Headed out to Big Sur

Headed out to Big Sur

Nicole Dulaney
Big Sur is a breathtakingly beautiful region located on the central coast of California. It's a popular destination for travelers looking for stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, towering redwoods, and scenic drives. In this blog post, we'll be highlighting a day trip to Big Sur to visit some of the most iconic spots in the region.

Our first stop is McWay Falls, a stunning waterfall that cascades onto a secluded beach in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. The waterfall is visible from a viewpoint on Highway 1 and is a popular spot for photography. The short trail to the viewpoint is wheelchair accessible, and there is a parking lot nearby. Please note, this park is not dog friendly.

After taking in the beauty of McWay Falls, we'll make a stop at the Henry Miller Memorial Library. The library is dedicated to the life and work of writer Henry Miller and is housed in a historic building surrounded by redwoods. The library is surrounded by electic decor, hosts events and concerts throughout the year and has a bookstore with a selection of books by Miller and other writers.

Afterwards, we'll head to Pfeiffer Burns State Park to explore the redwood forests and hike the trails. The park has a number of hiking trails of varying lengths and difficulty levels, so there's something for everyone. This park features Pfeiffer Falls which is a 1.3 mile out and back trail to view a 60-foot waterfall. You can also visit the Big Sur River Gorge which is a nice swimming hole, if you can handle the cold water! The park also has a campground and picnic areas, so it's a great spot for a lunch break.

Next, we'll drive to Garrapata State Park, which offers stunning views of the rugged coastline and rolling hills. The park has several hiking trails that take visitors through meadows, forests, and rocky bluffs. The park is also home to a variety of wildlife, including harbor seals, sea lions, and sea otters.

Our final stop is Calla Lilly Valley, a beautiful field of wildflowers that bloom in the spring. The valley is located on private property, but visitors are allowed to park on the side of the road and walk through the field. The sight of thousands of calla lilies in full bloom is truly spectacular and is a great way to end the day.

Overall, a day trip to Big Sur to visit McWay Falls, Pfeiffer Burns State Park, Garrapata State Park, Henry Miller Memorial Library, and Calla Lilly Valley is an unforgettable experience. The region's natural beauty is truly awe-inspiring, and there's something for everyone, whether you're a nature lover, a history buff, or a bookworm.
